Lead Bricks:

Lead Shielding bricks with interlocking mating surfaces facilitate swift and economic construction of radiation barriers in the form of walls, chambers, cells and boxes of almost any size or thickness.

Lead Blankets:

Flexible lead blankets for gamma radiation shielding in a nuclear environment. The blankets may hang, be laid down on the ground or wound around pipes.

The shielding is made from lead wool (long fibres) which is regularly compressed, put between two armoured PVC films, and sewn. The matt is then introduced into a PVC envelope and the edges are welded up at high frequency.

This process guarantees the performance of the lead blanket in the vertical position. The lead wool cannot fall at the bottom of the envelope or be cut by repeated handlings.

Pipe Shielding:

Calder have a range of moulds and extrusion dies to suit pipe shielding requirements with mating faces to prevent shine paths occurring in both directions. These segments can be installed efficiently to form a complete barrier along active pipe runs.

Lead Filled Fabrications:

Steel vessels that have to withstand high stresses can be filled with lead by direct casting (hot filling) or with rolled, or machined or extruded lead (cold filling). Direct casting must be carried out under carefully controlled conditions paying special attention to temperature and rate of solidification to avoid shrinkage cavities.

Cast and Machined Special Products:

Casting of lead alloys is a well known method of making shielding of either relatively simple or highly complex shapes. In many cases a good "as cast" finish is satisfactory but, where necessary Calder machine lead castings, to ensure accurate fitting during assembly.

Lead Fabrication:

Calder's fabrication expertise brings together all of the Special Product's units activities including casting, machining, rolling and extrusion. Steel frames, container vessels and lifting eyes and bolts can all be incorporated into the finished product. Lining and cladding of plant and equipment for harsh chemical and nuclear environments are a speciality and skilled teams are available for on-site work. Calder's advanced methods of fabrication enable items to be manufactured to precise specifications under tightly controlled conditions - consistently.

Lead Lined Safes:

Free standing cavity safe to provide secure lead shielded storage for radioactive materials. Mild steel outer case with full width door hung on heavy duty hinges.

Lockable door. Continuous lead protection to base, top, sides, back and door.
